Italian Short Film Selected for Oscars

Bismillah” directed by Alessandro Grande is set to represent the Italian film Academy Award for the best short film. The work, which won the David di Donatello award, alongside “Dogman” by Matteo Garrone that, chosen by ANICA, will contribute to selection for the best foreign film at the 91st Edition of the Academy Awards.

 

The story of little Samira, against the backdrop of the complex issue of immigration, has captured the public of the festival and insiders reaching international standards in no time and winning awards in Russia, Great Britain, Korea, and India. The short film, written and directed by Alessandro Grande and produced by the same Director with the Indigo movie, supported by Calabria Film Commission, Rai cinema and distributed by Zen Movie, continues it’s run towards the world’s most coveted statuette of the silver screen that could be an essential springboard for the young filmmaker and Italian cinema.

The announcement of the nominations is planned for 22 January 2019, while the Oscar ceremony will be held in Los Angeles Sunday 24 February 2019.
